Pasquotank County Soil and Water Conservation
Soil & Water Conservation in Pasquotank County, NC
Pasquotank County is served by the Albemarle Soil & Water Conservation District, covering Pasquotank along with Camden, Chowan, Currituck, and Perquimans counties.
🌿 Mission
The District’s mission is to conserve and protect the county’s soil and water resources by:
● Preventing soil erosion and improving water quality through technical assistance and cost share programs
● Guiding implementation of best management practices (BMPs) on farms, streams, and community lands
● Promoting stewardship through educational outreach and landowner support
🌿Key Functions
Technical & Financial Support
● Administering programs such as the Agriculture Cost Share Program (ACSP), Agricultural Water Resources Assistance Program (AgWRAP), and Community Conservation Assistance Program (CCAP).
Resource Protection & Planning
● We work closely with partners such as the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCAGR) to implement conservation practices that protect soil and water resources across Pasquotank County. Our efforts include supporting farm conservation planning, improving drainage and flood management, and promoting environmentally conscious land use through state and federal programs. Together, we help landowners meet environmental goals while preserving the long-term health of our natural resources.
Local Outreach & Stewardship
● Supporting educational programs, demonstration projects, and environmental planning that raise awareness and build community capacity for long-term conservation. We sponsor a variety of youth educational programs each year, including the Resource Conservation Workshop, NC Conservation Poster and Essay Contest, Coastal and State Envirothon Competition, and Land Judging and Forestry Contests. These events engage local students in conservation-related activities and competitions. Through these programs, we aim to foster awareness and stewardship of our natural resources.
